Teacher-on-Call getting high to Can, dreaming of 4 tracks, and a bunch of recent listens

Back from a Haida holiday, Kraan and a couple of youtubes from The Kinks!!!
Got the old noggin scanned and hopefully there's nothing there...
HAR HAR HAR HAR [for Dad]
BC Ferries...good times good times...
I've gone from Rupert to Haida Gwaii 3 times now (once here and a return this past weekend) and the ferries haven't left on time for any of them. And the patience of the people!? Well, it's obvious that most of them are old pros and know that the ferry is never on time...so, why worry? If this happened in Ontario, elections could be won or lost on the issue. There would be write-in campaigns, firings, constant complaining...and not of the amused patient type, but the "Time is money, and I can't be wasting it waiting for the fucking ferry, and yadda yadda yadda..." type. This is one of the positives of living in BC than Ontario. They take their time...
Got a cabin for the trip back and it was all good...and it was fun hanging in the hotel room high and playing harmonica like a broken but defiant rock star...i came close to throwing the tv off the balcony!!! lots of fun

Prince Rupert tale:
so im lying on the bed resting high listening to tunes doing crosswords finishing the zevon bio and then i hear it the noise the laughter the sinister fucking laughter no no cackling is that a better description its hard to tell but it is not happy it is beyond good and into evil territory young laughter affected by drugs perhaps a potent cocktail leaving one in a overall state of hysteria not of the def leppard kind and i shiver i shake then the "noise" changes to yelling someone had the nerve to tell this kid? to stop me i could hardly look out the curtains i couldnt move i was frozen to the bed listening to the laughter of the mad the bad the evil the hysterical and then the noise turns to screaming a screamed fuck you fuck you filled with hatred and the hatred that makes him mad that he has to drug himself to numb himself from his life? himself? the noise starts to abate and i slowly rise from my 7th floor bed and peek over the balcony looking for the criminally insane the tortured the angry the hysterical i saw no one i saw no one

Kraan: Kraan (1972) Another great krautrock discovery!!! I feel so naive getting into all this great krautrock at such a late date in the game. This is great...lots of jazz influence and the 18 minute "Head" is fantastic.
music that grabs you and holds on to you keeping your attention
shaking your lapels
brushing your hair
flushing the toilet
great sax

Sonic's Rendezvous Band: A Tribute

a sweat stained shitty bar out in the sticks...
no doors blocking the toilet...broken glass and vomit on the floor...
waitresses that flirt...you'll get nowhere, young man...
a buzz of anticipation in the air...
you can feel the energy coursing through adolescent veins...
so much fucking energy!!!!!
you're sick of your life
and your place in it...
the things you're supposed to do and be
don't feel right...
you wait for that first jolt of electricity
that will bundle up your energy
and give you sweet fucking relief...
...and then you drink 22 beers until you just get silly...
but that first jolt of electricity, man,
can you feel it!!!
that's a feeling worth recapturing
every now and then...
energy, anticipation...sweet release!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listening to Sonic's Rendezvous Band: Sweet Nothing (1998) captures that feeling of energy and release...from a live show April 4, 1978 in their hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan..."Dangerous" starts out with an energy blast...you're in a bar and the electricity blasting through speakers...head embedded with a wall of electric noise...setting the soul free from the bullshit of life a core of purity in a dirty rock'n'roll kind of way....like the best live albums, I wish I was there half out of my mind head in speakers blowing out brain cells like a heavy axe chop chop chop chopping my brains out and loving that moment in time a snapshot a camera lens burning into your head..."Getting There Is Half the Fun" is like the best heavy metal, runs galloping through everything put in front of it..."Heart of Stone" is a great cover, heavy and loud..."Sweet Nothing" is an instant classic and the sweat is pouring down your body stinking and your private world seems not so bad..."City Slang" rocks you one final time until your soul is screaming in a frenzy: "yeh, this is it, this is fucking it, can you feel it??? can you fucking feel it????????" and then you pass out with ears buzzing loud and you smile, satisfied, that this is it, this is fucking it!

Poetry Exercise: Bad Bosses + notes and commentary
bad bossesinfiltrate your mind
...all the time
dreams become
nightmares
as you
scream
into the dark
at the sound
of your alarm clock
bad bosses
shake hands with
hypocrisy
embrace contradiction
relate to incompetency
threatened
by competency
the families
of the tortured
stand and stare
in horror
with arms outstretched
wanting to comfort
and ease the pain
of the soiled soul
the bosses
laugh maniacally
and brush away
the dandruff
of their ego
bad bosses
lead you down a path
of darkness and terror
bad bosses
don't give a shit
about the state of
your health
your mind
"keep your eyes on the bottom line!"
shout the bad bosses
laughing up their asses
sharpening knives
ready to use power
to keep power
bad bosses
soil the ground
you walk upon
dine on discontent
feast on fatigue
and compliancy
loving lips
on their asses
"you're so great!
you're the best!"
the bad workers
stand and applaud
the bad bosses
who adore adulation
not based on action
bad bosses
turn sunshine
to darkness
a gentle rain
to a hurricane
common sense and
courtesy
are foreign terms
used by losers
whose lips
are not stuck on
the bosses' ass
bad bosses
can kiss my fucking ass!!!
I've got a resume
to hand in today!

notes and thoughts
usually i would write about a particular incident, but this is more a general poem with the bosses huge and cartoon-like while innocent workers are tiny and small and helpless underneath these assholes.
this is certainly based on personal experience of those near and dear to me...and my own fun with 'em.
when you have a bad boss, it can take over your mind and you can't shake it out...why don't these people have any understanding of their actions...could it be they don't give a shit??? only concerned with their own "station" in life??? is this the capitalist way? fuck everybody else and look out for yourself??? sad but too true too often...
an awful way to start the day...the alarm clock wakes you up and you feel dread...it's hard for your day to turn around with that start.
the 2nd verse (the "shake hands with hypocrisy") is true, but i'm not sure how poetic this is...a little dry...
bosses who treat an employee like shit, do not seem to comprehend that this also affects the families...when the employee comes home after 7-8 hours of abuse, it's impossible to shake that off...you want to help, want to ease their pain, but it's not easy and it affects you when the one you love is miserable most of the day...as i said right at the beginning...it infiltrates your mind...all the time!
i like the "brushing away the dandruff of their ego" line, but not sure if this is the best place for it...
it's always about the bottom line...the fucking bottom line...and when the employee feels insecure in their position, then they (understandably) become very worried about their own bottom line...i hope i get this fucking job i really am applying to! hopefully that'll ease the bottom line issue...
it always seems to be about power...fucking power...a basic microcosm of our society...
i can't stand sycophants, and wonder how the hell they can live with themselves...i guess they are just blissfully unaware, and this is what they do to protect their "station"...too bad just doing your job competently and judiciously isn't enough in a LOT of work places...
everything is affected if you're being tortured by a bad boss...it's hard to see beauty and love when you're surrounded by hatred, instability and incompetency most of the day...
it would be nice if we could all be buddah-like and be calm in the eye of the storm BUT we're human...we try, we try...it's especially difficult when you see how the incompetency of the "bad boss" affects other people's lives and you're helpless to do anything about it...without getting your ass fired which won't help anyone!
the poem probably needs some trimming and tightening, but i don't believe working a poem to death or you kill the original emotion in it...just brush some of the stray hairs...
i really do have a resume i'm handing in today, and i want the security and the chance to start preparing for our old age...when you get to a certain age you start thinking about this...

Random thoughts on a Random Day: Jutok Kaneko, Warren Zevon and that evil clown where Mayor McCheese is the law!!!
(((((((((((((
Jutok Kaneko: Endless Ruins (2001) Jutok died this past January at 48. This cd is awesome...most of it is just him, his guitar and his voice and it is both haunting and beautiful. He captured my attention and held on to it with a vise-like grip as I pondered his amazing talent. He is considered a part of the Japanese psychedelic and noise movement and he also had a rock group called Kosokuya that I will be delving into shortly. He is more than worthy of future study!!
Here's a video of Jutok with Tori Kudo and Tomas Muller and a interpretative dancer. I believe Jutok is the one with the shades behind the dancer. This is some wild shit from September 2003 at the Penguin House in Japan. thanks to lesDEDS. Tori Kudo looks like someone else to explore!
*************
I enjoyed Can: Rite Time (1989) with Malcolm Mooney returning on vocals. Is it under-rated??? I think so.
@@@@@@@
I've started the new bio on Warren Zevon ("I'll Sleep When I'm Dead") done by his ex-wife in the "Please Kill Me" format of quotes from those who knew him. He certainly was an interesting character! Father was a gangster...he gave up drinking for 17 years then when he found out he had cancer he went back to the bottle and apparently quite hard for a couple of months...hung out with Stravinksy a few times...as a teenager!..started out in a folk duo, but made some $$$ writing a couple of songs covered by The Turtles (already knew that one!)...and he was quite the womanizer. And I'm only on page 30! Certainly starting out as a fun read!

Here's a psychedelic acid-drenched McDonald's commercial for you. Still not convinced he's an evil clown??? thanks to ThreeOranges.

Rambling about G O D, lawsuits, religion, stupidity, politics, the environment and faith
1st point - I don't know the motivations behind the guy's lawsuit, and I do think he made a mistake suing "God" for natural catastrophes and that shit...no no no...sue the bastard for accessory to murder and torture!!! That's more appropriate.
2nd point - The lawsuit should have included ALL motherfucking deities. Include em all!! Any of these man-made creations to shoulder the blame and excuses for OUR actions. Look, there's nothing wrong with faith if it helps you get through the day...we all need something. All these countries that use a name of a deity for wicked political actions is what's evil. All these "religious" books were written by humans dammit! They were written under the guidance of the factions leaders as a "guide" to the people on how they should comport themselves and suport the current political powers. And if used to have some common basic values, then it's fine. We should be courteous, decent and respectful to all our fellow humans (and animals). We shouldn't kill or steal or harm other people. This just makes life more tolerable.
LOOK!
There is no fucking heaven...no pearly gates...no hell...no utopia...no mountain in the sky...the most I would cede is that a person's aura can carry on after they die, but that's it. And if I'm wrong, and there is..well, who gives a fuck. We don't know for sure, and no one has definite proof. Faith is NOT proof. Faith is a personal decision that should not affect me or other people who don't share that faith.
LISTEN BABIES
I believe in a general humanity. I don't want to harm anyone else, I don't want to judge any one else...BUT, when that person's faith is forced upon and affects me, I feel the need to stand up and resist. Just because I don't believe in any God or deity, does not make me a bad person going to hell. I'm sensitive and the thought of harming another person makes me sick...literally...I suffer from depression and if I'm harsh or disrespectful to someone else I have trouble sleeping, my anxiety increases and I feel like shit. This is my conscience, and maybe we should listen to our conscious more than old books that were written to CONTROL the masses.
OK...I've fallen away from the points, and I'm rambling and so what?
But when I see a leader using God as an excuse for their actions, it makes me sick. They are using the term GOD as an excuse to line their pockets and maintain power over the masses, that are gulliable and trusting enough to believe the shit the media (controlled by those in power) feeds them.
And let's face it...young fucking men and women are DYING because of this evil. Those mid-east leaders use their deity as a way to get young men to die for their causes. They are fucking children you bastards!!! I'm not railing against just the U.S, I'm railing against them all. And God can also represent a leader..the countries that have to listen to all the shit from a megalomaniac (Hitler, Hussein, Idi, Stalin) or be thrown in jail, or raped or killed are shit as well. They just place themselves on the same level as a deity.
It's a scary fucking world, and all these delusional people running around killing in the name of imaginary creations while the actual physical world dies around them absolutely astounds me.
Money is imaginary too. It's a man-made creation even though you wouldn't think that by hearing people talk. Instead of sharing we hoard...I'm guilty of this as well. I don't give back as much to my community as I should. This is something I need to work on. We need to keep working towards becoming better people...a positive force...the negativity needs to be offset by positivity, yet it seems like negativity is overpowering the positivity, but there are positive forces in the world. Just an act of human kindness or courtesy is positive.
This is wiping me out, but I've watched the news too much lately, and it's disturbing. Sanctamonius talking heads spouting out their hatred and narrow-mindendness...negative
George W. Bush = negativity
Osama Bin Laden = negativity
Saddam Hussein = negativity
Adolph Hitler = negativity
FOX News, CNN, Headline News = negativity
jewish and palestinian leaders that hate each other = negativity
every miserable bastard at your work = negativity
suicide bombers = negativity
a soldier with a weapon = negativity
bullies = negativity
a sincere smile = positivity
helping out a person with a heavy load = positivity
listening to someone's problems = positivity
picking up a piece of garbage = positivity
Let's make positivity > negativity
and be more positive towards the earth we live on, and that we're killing every single fucking day for a man-made creation i.e money money money y'all
These are some rambling thoughts of mine, and please don't kill me over them, and I promise I won't kill you for your beliefs!
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Oh btw...I was raised Roman Catholic, went to a Catholic high school, made to go to church every weekend, and it did nothing for me but make me realize that organized religion is twisted and is organized by humans to maintain control over it's people. Life through guilt...born with sin!?!? What the fuck is that?????
I thought it best to share that bit of history...if you give a shit...hahahaha
Cheers!!!! p o s i t i v e vibes to y'all!!!!!!!!!

The rain drizzles upon OJ, Poobah rocks! and Can, Ya Ho Wa and Iggy drop by and praise Nathaniel Mayer!!
^^^^^^
Let's talk about OJ...instead of "real" NEWS say the news media as Bush and cronies laugh at the distraction away from the "real" issues. "Thanks OJ, and we're not forgetting your important work either Ms. Spears," applaud the Republican bigwigs lighting up cuban cigars with rolled up $50 bills....

Our dog has become a keyboard playing whizz...We picked up a $20 kids keyboard and she loves banging the shit out of it. The other day, I was going to use it while taping an absurd cover of Sister Ray, but Poobah obviously knows that the keyboard is actually hers, so she carried on until I put it down to let her play it. She backed me up and sounded great! Like Lightnin' Hopkins she demands her payment before she plays, but once you pay her (in dog treats) she rocks and rolls and struts like a canine Jerry Lee Poobah!!

Musical Freestyle Thoughts
The 1st cd of the 4 cd Canobits by the almighty Can settled into my soul and transported me to a higher plane...this was the early stuff, some with Malcolm Mooney (awesome!) and Tim Hardin (of all people!!) during a rehearsal. Incredible stuff for us Canheads.
Listening to more of Ya Ho Wa, I've come to appreciate the variety of the cds. I like the psychedelic krautrock stylings with minimal musings from Yahowa himself. The "Savage Sons of Yahowa" (1974) is my fav...so far. [aside: when at the end of "To the Principles, for the Children" the children start singing praises to Yahowa...well, it sort of makes me nervous...children shouldn't sing praises to anyone or anything...reeks of cults and religion]
Michael Nesmith's early albums are pretty good. Very pleasant and enjoyable.
I'm a fan of The Groundhogs. Great 70s rock with awesome guitar playing.
I got a chance to hear Iggy Pop: Avenue B (1999) and thought it was excellent! I loved the sound of the album, and Iggy was in good voice, and the lyrics were good too. Not the most upbeat album, but if you're in your middle years and you still feel fucked-up the album can H I T you. Absolutely smokes The Stooges reunion album "The Weirdness" (2007). The clips on youtube of the reunion show The Stooges and Iggy still kick ass live.

Nathaniel Mayer: Why Don't You Give It To Me (2007) smokes some wicked ass!!! His well worn voice suits the material perfectly, and the music kicks baby! Get It!!!
++++++++
The Guru is back this Saturday from a course in Vancouver...praise Ya Ho Wa!!!! 2 fucking weeks, and she'll be gone for 3 more mid-October :(
She did get to see Richard Thompson at the Commodore Ballroom and she had nothing but praise for it. We saw RT about 4 years ago at an outdoor concert and he was great. Apparently, the sound was great at the Ballroom, and his fans are so old, that she didn't even get hit on!? If I was there I would have hit on her...
She's got tickets to see The Tiger Lillies when she goes back and you could say I'm pretty fucking jealous!
$$$$$$
Hmmm...I wonder what's happening around the world? No point watching CNN, Headline News or Fox if you want that information!

Poetry in Motion: Apocalyptic Dreams (aka Messin' with My Mind)
Apocalyptic Dreams (aka Messin' with My Mind)
I was messin'
with my mind
then I realized
the mind was gone [aside: where the fuck did it go???]
I took a break
had some pills
took a trip
to
rivers of regret
streams of sadness
oceans of oddities
ALL [aside: every fucking thing!] solidified
into the unknown
“the unknowable
is a sure thing”
I heard a voice
in the corridor
say in an
authoritative voice
A CRASH!!! [aside: of ridiculous proportions!!!]
nothing was left…
the apocalypse
never occurred
I’m stranded
on an island
on a rock
the eagles hover
ominously
waiting for the sign
a sign that
this is it

Haida Gwaii inspirational story; Kevin Coyne super cool link
***

Here's a link to a super cool blog of rare Kevin Coyne downloads. Anything that exposes the music of Kevin Coyne to the world is worthwhile in my view! The World of Kevin Coyne.
***
I've been trying to find a job here. It's going alright...just gotta be patient. I put in to be a substitute teacher! That would be quite the change for me...but all kids love the substitute teacher, right? Right!?!?
When I'm not trying to find a job, I've been writing more poetry and prose than I have in years! This comes as a great relief to me. I've been struggling in doing any worthwhile writing for the past few years...but, the blog has helped get the juices flowing. I'll try to do a write-up over the long weekend on my latest musical discoveries and rediscoveries. I'm listening to Twink: Think Pink (1970) and it's sounding pretty awesome. Anyone got any mushrooms?
Anyone???

I watched a great 5 part doc on Iggy and The Stooges on youtube. Here's the 1st part, and just follow along and you'll find the other parts. It's called The South Bank show documentary...whatever the hell that is, but this is great. It features interviews with Iggy from 2004 when The Stooges got back together. I was surprised at how beat up his body is...yet, on stage you would never know! Iggy is one hell of a trooper!! thanks opevans
