Art - Supernatural Fairy Tales 1967

Art: Supernatural Fairy Tales (1967)

My friend Steve found this one for me. What can I say? It's finishing up on the stereo now, and I tell ya...I really dug the shit out of this one. A great combo of pop whimsy, psychedelia and a little early prog.

Guy Stevens produced it. He also has produced Free, Traffic, The Clash and one of my favs - Mott the Hoople. This guy deserves some props baby!!! He's been dead for 25 years but still...what the fuck? Props to Guy!!!

Luther Grosvenor played guitar. He later joined Spooky Tooth and Mott the Hoople - after Guy Stevens had stopped producing them!

Mike Harrison played keys. He also joined Spooky Tooth and in reality became the head tooth.

Greg Ridley played bass. He also joined Spooky Tooth and then the massive Humble Pie.

Mike Kellie was the drummer. Guess who he joined? Yep...he also joined Spooky Tooth (obviously Art was a precursor to the Spooks), and later was a member of the fabulous The Only Ones led by Peter Perrett.

This is a band with a deep, underrated pedigree and are worth checking out if you like great psychedelic pop music. A real treat to hear!

A Krautrock post - Can and a top 10 list

damo and the boys rocking out
Can: Tago Mago (1971) ***** 5 FUCKING STARS
years without can = years with
less brilliance
less intensity
less freakishness
less - great fucking music!!

"paperhouse" - one of my fav songs...the feeling approaches...dimly lit nightclub...the band starts and the music flows through the room...disparate notes dance and weave amongst the revellers...damo is dancing maniacally...
"mushroom" - this has an air of eerieness...spookiness...damo spits out his words...because he has to...it is a part of him...feel the band getting into tune with each other...i am mushroom head...you are mushroom head...we are all mushroom head....
"oh yeah" - the end is near...the mushroom blows up...it is time to take stock...
