Mind Thoughts while watching Shawn Michaels - Bret Hart from Wrestlemania XII 3/31/1996

ok gentlemen i've called you here to this ring...
I watched this as it happened back in the day...but it's been 12 years, so time to visit this considered classic between 2 of the best...

Preliminary

I've got Poobah hanging out with me and Trouble. The Guru is off partying in Ontario! Lucky! I'm jealous...I just listened to Frank Zappa's "Wazoo" live 1972 released 2007 and sounding mighty fine on first listen. wazoo! wazoo! it's the wazoo band!!

alright ladies and gentlemen let's set er up for the main event of the evening the champion Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels in a 60 minute iron man match for the WWF World Heavyweight Champion (said howard co-harvey style)

first - we'll finish listening to cd 1 of Zappa: Wazoooooooooooooooooo

..then a little herbal essence...

Oh My God...why is Hebner talking so s l o w l y?????

The Main Event

4:33 - lawler's been good so far...these guys don't make mistakes...everything crisp clean basic but good...

7:47 - stu and blassie lookin' pretty sharp...stu looks almost alive - hahahaha

14:40 - this has been great...love bret when he shows heel...

15:03 - wow what a spot!! did that timekeeper guy get levelled or what!?!

17:07 - that was funny - bret to ref: "ask him ask him...it's not a staring contest"...was great...he sounded so ticked off...

18:32 - does mcmahon never shut up???

19:30 - these guys smooth like ice cream or chips ahoy double chocolate chewy ummmm goood

21:16 - really i mean is mcmahon trying to be this irritating???? he's starting to stroke a certain wrestler's (initials: SM) shorts...

31:02 - great reaction to bret's piledriver..fantastic match

32:51 - big high spot from shawn - almost as high as I am...harharhar....

41:16 - both guys have been great the cookies were favulous thank you very much

So, I got wrapped up in it, probably too high or something and just watched the rest of the match and didn't write to the blog. It was great stuff. It was awesome at the end and they had the crowd, baby, they had the crowd...2 of my favs at their peak (or close to it!) There's so much drama between these two!!!

Read both their books, and Bret's the better of the two. Shawn's was a bit thin...Bret was detail central and it was a great read. What a fucking family...lifestyle...incredible!

Over and out Gorilla!

Questions! Questions! Questions! Answers?

Musical Questions

Why do so few people know about Kevin Coyne? When will the Kevin Coyne renaissance take place? It’s OK for him to be popular now – he’s dead.

How’s Captain Beefheart doing these days?

Why haven’t The Kinks had a proper box set done on them? It could be a greatest hits + rarities OR better yet for fans, a collection of all the rarities out there + live stuff. I’d like some archival Kinks please!! How about live sets from the Preservation, Soap Opera and Schoolboys tours?

I absolutely love King Crimson during their 1st phase (late 60s through 1975), but have never gotten into them once they came back in the 80s. Why is that? The best thing since they got back together? The Projekts box set from 1999. Thanks for asking.

Will Michael Jackson really make a comeback?

When did The Rolling Stones lose significance? I’d say after Tattoo You 1981...or maybe after Exile on Main Street?

When did The Who lose significance? I’d say after Keith Moon died...or maybe after Quadrophenia?

Does anyone else miss the old days of really cool album art? Cds just can’t provide the coolness of a fold-out lp with lyrics inside. Ah youth…lying on my bed with lps around me.

What will the next media be for music? Can lps ever make a significant comeback?

Where did The Hated Uncles: Kill Morrissey ep ever end up?

Does anyone have a copy of The Hated Uncles first recording session featuring “Name on a Gravestone”, “At Peace” and “Anger” on it?

Who is the Third Man?

King Crimson: Larks' Tongue in Aspic from 1972. Jamie Muir rules! thanks cincoperros

Guru gone for a month, my mind is full and the tunes are still rockin'!!

I just got back from dropping the Guru off at the airport. She's off to Vancouver for a conference, then off to Ontario to see family and friends. The Bah and I are going to miss her, but hopefully the time will pass quickly.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

4 weeks to go on my Life Skills contract and the mind is full thinking of my next assault to grab some of the money tree.

There's a library job that would be cool...even though it's only til April. There seem to be some interest in doing some Life Skills stuff, but it's all part-time.
OR
I may pursue my own business - web design, tutoring and whatever else...gotta work on the business plan. There's a program out there for us (soon-to-be) unemployed folk that assists in getting our own business started. At least this gets me back into the computer field - since that's what I went back to fucking school for!!
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Rockin' Tuneage

The Mystic Tide: Solid Sound (1994) Who the fuck were these guys?!?! Wow!!!!! I was absolutely blown away by them. Some kind of combination of Les Rallizes Denudes and The Velvets with some garage punk thrown in. Awesome!!! Here's Julian Cope's assessment. So - some of these recordings were done in the 90s?...so fucking what!!! Great music is great music.

I found some Kinks bootlegs from Japan on Telhados do Mundo that I'm drooling over.

Man, one of the reasons I actually wouldn't mind going to Ontario for is to see some live music. We're pretty isolated here. Just thinkin' bout that summer watching George Clinton, Van Morrison and Neil Young would make any music lover salivate.

Guru Guru: Essen 1970:
call it what you will -
krautrock
prog rock
jazz rock
rock'n'roll
weird shit
This is an awesome document of a band at their beginning. The energy is impeccable, the sound is great and I can't stop singing: Boooooooooooooooooooooo Diddley!!!
One of my fav bands.

Steve Hillage: Fish Rising (1975) This was a very pleasant surprise (well - it really shouldn't be a surprise), and sounded like classic Gong with Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth's space whispers intact.

Back from Moresby Adventure Camp

Moresby Adventure Camp
...with a bunch of mentally ill and brain-injured people. Oh yeh - there were clients there as well!

It was quite the adventure. Here's a few fun things that happened.

a) First off the food that we were supposed to bring was a little anal health wise. I mean, the clients couldn't afford this health food even if they liked it. One client called drunk and left a message on the answering machine at work: "It has come to my attention that there are no hot dogs being brought. I think it would be egregious not to bring hot dogs to the camp." Classic! Especially using the word egregious! So - we did end up bringing some hot dogs, marshmallows & chocolate chips for smores and some potato chips. Wise move!

b) I couldn't talk the boss into letting us bring pop - cause there was a diabetic going. So guess who was the only person who snuck pop into the camp? That's right. The diabetic!

c) Real personality problems between 2 of the clients. They both know everything about everything - of course, one has a sense of humour about it and the other is deadly serious. I saw them cursing each other a few times.

d) One of the clients wanted to go home on day 3. This after another client picked up his bag (probably 20 pounds - at least) and started walking home. We were in the middle of nowhere. I got in the jeep and looked around for him. No luck. Getting back to camp the other guy wanted to go home, so I said I'd drive him to the ferry and we'd search for the other guy on our way. 6 1/2 km outside camp we came upon our missing camper. He hopped in the jeep and we drove to the ferry. 6 1/2 km man came back with me and the other guy went home. Not bad. We only lost 1 guy...and for 4 nights that's pretty good.

e) There was a bear hanging around our campsite. Coming back from a hike, a client and myself came upon the bear exploring the front of the cabin. I said let's make noise and head to the longhouse. The bear stared at us, but wandered off.

f) 2 of the clients were eating hot dogs over the fire - I thought I'd grab one myself, but noticed the dogs looked somewhat green. They didn't seem to mind this. I passed on the hot dog.

g) We ate well, since one of the clients was a great cook and loved to share his expertise.

h) On the day before we were to go home, 6 1/2 km man decided he wanted to go swimming. I thought the water would be a little cold, but said I'd go down with him and keep an eye on him. I was shooting the shit when all of a sudden he jumped in! I thought "fuck you dude, I'm going in too." So, I went back to the longhouse and put on my shorts and went back down. I hesitated then yelled "MOTHERFUCKER!!!!" and ran off the dock into the incredibly cold water. I came right out, but it was invigorating and we ended up getting most of the campers to jump in as well. A great bonding experience.

i) On our 2nd last day, 6 1/2 km man got angry with another counsellor and wanted to go home. I said I'd stay back and talk to him. He ended up sticking it out, so we drove to town and I grabbed a couple of pops! Ah, sweet coca-cola!!!!

Overall: It was a fun experience. I missed the lack of showers and plumbing (and pop!), but for 4 nights it was alright. Everybody seemed to have a good time, and I do get 2 days to take off down the line. Here's the Moresby Adventure Camp link.
