Odds and Ends Odds and Ends I should drink more Orange Juice!!!!

the power of the funk!!!
Musical Chit Chat

Friday Night August the 14th!!!!
Friday Night August the 14th!!!!
Friday Night August the 14th!!!!

Man - I just finished watching that youtube video of Funkadelic (again and again and again) and it wraps me up and sends me off to different galaxies
and intensities
and emotions
I just wanna fucking
SCREAM
...with passion...

Note to Mole (and everybody else): I listened to JD King & The Coachmen, and thought it was great. I had it on my Walkman and didn't know who it was: I thought - wow, a cool garage instrumental version of "Sweet Jane" - about time. I checked it out and it was JD. Very interesting guy...Thanks Mole!

I'm enjoying Budgie's solid 70s hard rock approach. No frills.

Elephant9: Dodovoodoo (2008) Loved this slice of Norwegian progressive acid organ jazz. Maybe I'm looking under the wrong rocks and swimming the wrong oceans and walking the wrong lanes...BUT I don't hear enough new modern jazz, so this went down beautifully and soothed the soul.

I have discovered lots of great new music (including Elephant9) on the blog called Soundweave. Great job guys! Much appreciated!!

Hey, enough of this modern stuff
hahaha
here's an old obscure classic worth hearing: Euclid: Heavy Equipment (1970) Check out this fuzzed out psych rockin' trip on ChrisGoesRock.

Miscellaneous Chit Chat

I'm glad Obama beat McCain (oh Lord another 8 years of selfish aggressive xenophobic sons of bitches...I think not) and hopefully he lives up to the hype. I'm cynical about politicians in general, but I'm rooting for him...I guess we'll see. I hope he really is about change, and I mean
SERIOUS FUCKING CHANGE
not a little tune up.

I start the Life Skills job on Wednesday and am pretty anxious (and excited) to find out about my responsibilities. The library job is really good.
honestly it's a rolled up cig!!
Our 18 year old cat "Trouble" is still hanging in there. He's started showing his age...then again, I calculate his age to be 90, and if I'm doing as well as him when I'm that age...well, as Barry Manilow once wisely proclaimed:
"It's A Miracle
a true blue spectacle
a miracle come true" - or something like that.

Hope all went well at my friends Andrew and Sandra's wedding on Halloween. Hamilton seems so far away...literally. Hope they had a great time and are enjoying married life!

Got A Light?? youtube: Old Cigarette Ads

Came across some hilarious tv ads for cigarettes. Well - maybe not so hilarious for the people that believed the commercials and died of lung cancer! Here's 3 classic ads.

1) Finally the Medical Profession talks sense!!!!!!!!!! From 1949...thanks graficsfx

2) Ah...that cute little penguin is giving me cigarette cravings!!!....thanks SukiDremere

3) Hey - if smoking is good enough for Dick Van Dyke...it's gotta be good enough for me!! Also, that must have been one hot cigarette girl to make MTM so jealous! thanks weenielongus

Jobs Jobs Jobs, War Dance, Mole, Amazon, Sparks and Stevie Wonder on Sesame Street!!!

where am i??? i look like everybody else!!!
Jobs Jobs Jobs

We all gotta work to get by and buy
BUY
BUY!!!!!

The past couple of weeks has seen me take jobs, refuse jobs, trying to get a
b a l a n c e
in life and
pocketbook...

TAKEN -----
Yeeha!!! 1) Permanent PT (21 hrs/wk) doing life skills here in skidegate AND 2) Casual at the QC Library to fill in the rest of the time....

REFUSENIK ------
1) CDC on-call computer tech - even though it's a computer job and I'd die for a FT computer job - but NOT hardware networking troubleshooting kind of stuff --- not my field dude ---
i wanna be a cowboy
i wanna be your fool
i wanna be your dog
and i wanna be a
FT computer programmer
not your on-call
troubleshooter!!!
2) contract position at the life skills place doing some kind of separate project - this would have been good if I didn't get the ol library job...
3) I was actually offered the "circulation supervisor" position (temp til april) but had to turn it down when I got the Life Skills job...this would have been a temporary hi hi hi high...

The beautiful thing about it is: this is the first time I finished up a job and actually had choices to make. I've NEVER had a choice - ya take what you can get babybob....
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Well - enough of the boring old job shit that we all gotta do (well, most of us)...let's get to more exciting shit...

Went to see
War Dance last night. It's a doc on Northern Uganda kids deep in the heart of the war torn country who go to Kampala for a music festival...they do great and the kids are great and the music and dancing was fantastic, BUT - it should have been so much better. Dare I say it was boring at the beginning...and it's about war, children and music! It should not be boring. It was too manipulated by the directors to feel for the kids, which was totally unnecessary. Let the audience make up it's own mind. [aside: the host started explaining about the politics in Uganda and how bad Idi Amin was - did we really need this explained to us? I mean - get out! - Idi Amin was a bad man?!?!?! I better look him up - never heard of Idi - Amin?]

Doesn't Kin Ping Meh's "Too Many People" sound like some Lighthouse song - I think "Good Day"?? That's not a bad thing, ya know...

The Mole sent me a package of some tuneage and it's quite an exciting package! [aside: thanks bruce!] New Simply Saucer (excellent!), JD King & The Coachmen (on my mp3 player and coming up mole!), Burnt Sugar (also on my mp3 player and coming up) Battleship Ethel, Shangs and a couple of movies including the primo 26 minute doc of "
The Last Pogo" (now THIS is a fucking documentary!!!!) I'll post my little commentary on JD soon!

This American election is depressing. Obama and McCain are just 2 more of the same old...The old guard is certainly secure when it comes to American politics! Obama may be black, youngish and (I guess to some) charismatic...but, he seems like just another bullshit politician to me. Still - compared to McCain, all I can say is - "Let's go Obama!!!!"

Acid Mothers Gong: Nagoya 2003 is a pretty crazy exciting live document. Check out Acid Motherhood first though! That is one mother of an album. Great cover too!

I'm giving Sparks another try right now. I've sorta liked the stuff of theirs I've heard, but it's never got it's hooks into me completely. It's just started and sounding pretty good. Hum....

Since I just got me some jobs it's time to order from amazoni kanada. What to get? What to get? Maybe a couple of wrestling vids - definitely the Curt Hennig dvd set! A music dvd? Is The 8 dvd Beat Club series available?? That would be sweet!!! A box set? Hum...which one? A computer book? Nah...I've got a couple I'm still working through. * sigh * so many choices...

Sparks are sounding good...I can see why they didn't get their hooks in me. Too kitschy for a cynical son-of-a-bitch like me. I'm more in the mood for kitsch today, so it's sounding quite good.
All the best to Andrew Rodwell and Sandra Etherington on their upcoming wedding on Hallowe'en. Beautiful choice for a beautiful day. Unfortunately, The Guru and I can't make it since, you know, we're all the way across the country. We both wish the best for the soon-to-be newlyweds!!!!

I've leave this blah blah blah blog with a youtube.

Here's some absolute genius: Stevie Wonder doing "Superstition" on...get this...on Sesame Street!!! Live!!!! Real!!!! Funky!!!!!!! Stevie in his absolute prime. Enjoy. thanks RSLweblog!

Listened to The Viletones "A Taste of Honey" recorded 1977 released 1996 and wondered why I hadn't any Viletones in my collection until now. I mean, I've seen them live a couple of times. One time I even helped him break a guitar...well, actually I think I fell on my ass...but whatever! Opening for Johnny Thunders with Teenage Head backing him. Great show...um, got pretty drunk and almost got in a fight...good times! good times!

Mind Thoughts while watching Shawn Michaels - Bret Hart from Wrestlemania XII 3/31/1996

ok gentlemen i've called you here to this ring...
I watched this as it happened back in the day...but it's been 12 years, so time to visit this considered classic between 2 of the best...

Preliminary

I've got Poobah hanging out with me and Trouble. The Guru is off partying in Ontario! Lucky! I'm jealous...I just listened to Frank Zappa's "Wazoo" live 1972 released 2007 and sounding mighty fine on first listen. wazoo! wazoo! it's the wazoo band!!

alright ladies and gentlemen let's set er up for the main event of the evening the champion Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels in a 60 minute iron man match for the WWF World Heavyweight Champion (said howard co-harvey style)

first - we'll finish listening to cd 1 of Zappa: Wazoooooooooooooooooo

..then a little herbal essence...

Oh My God...why is Hebner talking so s l o w l y?????

The Main Event

4:33 - lawler's been good so far...these guys don't make mistakes...everything crisp clean basic but good...

7:47 - stu and blassie lookin' pretty sharp...stu looks almost alive - hahahaha

14:40 - this has been great...love bret when he shows heel...

15:03 - wow what a spot!! did that timekeeper guy get levelled or what!?!

17:07 - that was funny - bret to ref: "ask him ask him...it's not a staring contest"...was great...he sounded so ticked off...

18:32 - does mcmahon never shut up???

19:30 - these guys smooth like ice cream or chips ahoy double chocolate chewy ummmm goood

21:16 - really i mean is mcmahon trying to be this irritating???? he's starting to stroke a certain wrestler's (initials: SM) shorts...

31:02 - great reaction to bret's piledriver..fantastic match

32:51 - big high spot from shawn - almost as high as I am...harharhar....

41:16 - both guys have been great the cookies were favulous thank you very much

So, I got wrapped up in it, probably too high or something and just watched the rest of the match and didn't write to the blog. It was great stuff. It was awesome at the end and they had the crowd, baby, they had the crowd...2 of my favs at their peak (or close to it!) There's so much drama between these two!!!

Read both their books, and Bret's the better of the two. Shawn's was a bit thin...Bret was detail central and it was a great read. What a fucking family...lifestyle...incredible!

Over and out Gorilla!

YouTube: Classic Kinks 1972!!!

I just finished listening to Arthur (1969) by The Kinks, and it's got me feeling somewhat kinky. I searched youtube and found this awesome clip of The Kinks doing "Waterloo Sunset" and "Village Green Preservation Society" from the Rainbow Theatre in London, 1972. Fantastic stuff!! Thanks a million PranksterPrairie!!!

Questions! Questions! Questions! Answers?

Musical Questions

Why do so few people know about Kevin Coyne? When will the Kevin Coyne renaissance take place? It’s OK for him to be popular now – he’s dead.

How’s Captain Beefheart doing these days?

Why haven’t The Kinks had a proper box set done on them? It could be a greatest hits + rarities OR better yet for fans, a collection of all the rarities out there + live stuff. I’d like some archival Kinks please!! How about live sets from the Preservation, Soap Opera and Schoolboys tours?

I absolutely love King Crimson during their 1st phase (late 60s through 1975), but have never gotten into them once they came back in the 80s. Why is that? The best thing since they got back together? The Projekts box set from 1999. Thanks for asking.

Will Michael Jackson really make a comeback?

When did The Rolling Stones lose significance? I’d say after Tattoo You 1981...or maybe after Exile on Main Street?

When did The Who lose significance? I’d say after Keith Moon died...or maybe after Quadrophenia?

Does anyone else miss the old days of really cool album art? Cds just can’t provide the coolness of a fold-out lp with lyrics inside. Ah youth…lying on my bed with lps around me.

What will the next media be for music? Can lps ever make a significant comeback?

Where did The Hated Uncles: Kill Morrissey ep ever end up?

Does anyone have a copy of The Hated Uncles first recording session featuring “Name on a Gravestone”, “At Peace” and “Anger” on it?

Who is the Third Man?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
King Crimson: Larks' Tongue in Aspic from 1972. Jamie Muir rules! thanks cincoperros
